ARTZUID, Amsterdam 2023
DAION is a monumental sculpture by Japanese artist Savako (Sawako Ando),created as part of her long-running hello Golem series. Standing 3.25 meters tall, it was exhibited at ARTZUID 2023 in Amsterdam, where Savako wasthe only Japanese participant.
The title DAION means "loud sound" in Japanese, evoking the image of a powerful wind blowing through the doughnut-shaped opening in its belly. Its vivid form symbolizes openness and vitality, expressing the hope for a future that is expansive and inclusive.
DAion reflects Savako's ongoing exploration of organic forms and invisible presences, translated into vibrant public sculptures that resonate with viewers across cultures.
